Teddy Pirate Bear

Lately I have been working with a paint brush and Japanese sumi ink. I’ve never had a lot of control on how my drawings would turn out, to be honest. The more control I try to enforce on a piece, the worst it looks. Especially when i force myself to draw well in a certain style– it never turns out well, unfortunately. I did well in art classes when the professor would tell me to just let go and let loose. I love the lines that I am able to produce with a brush. I am happier when I can draw without a plan and a real purpose.

This sketch was inspired by a story idea that my friend Nancy tossed at me some time ago, about a teddy bear who was so beaten up that he becomes a pirate. I thought it was a cute idea; I would still draw a mini-comic about it if she ever gets around to writing the story!
